Report to: School Director Job Summary: Act ‘in loco parentis’* for the students in the Boarding House. Lead the team of boarding staff and community both for the day-to-day operation and the development of long term strategy. Ensure all staff comply with the Health and Safety policy and other appropriate procedures of Panyaden, the Thai National Boarding Standards (Dormitory Act B.E.2558) and the Regional/International Accrediting Organizations. *In loco parentis: in the place of a parent" refers to the legal responsibility of a person or organization to take on some of the functions and responsibilities of a parent Main Responsibilities Day-to- Day Operation ● Ensure the Boarding House is secure, is well-maintained and is managed in a way that meets the needs of boarders and the aims of the school. ● Manage all operational boarding routines and activities (i.e. homework, mealtimes, housekeeping, maintenance, transport, excursions, noticeboards, sign in/out and other related tasks. ● Have regular interactions with all boarders to ensure their needs are met and their concerns are addressed. ● Provide guidance, support and advice for boarders. ● Keep suitable records of all events occurring in the Boarding House, including the physical and emotional health, achievement and misconduct of the boarders. ● Arrange boarding student orientation & boarding culture meetings. ● Be responsible for overall general health and the well-being of boarders and respond immediately and effectively to medical emergencies. ● Ensure travel arrangements for boarders organised by Boarding House are safe and approved by the school or relevant organisations prior to the trip. ● Initiate and participate in activities for the boarders and facilitate the involvement of all boarders and staff. ● Monitor academic performance and progress of students. Collaborate with the school regarding boarding students’ behaviour improvement and social skills. ● Participate in any parent-teacher meetings as needed. ● Promote student leadership in Boarding House. Welfare of Boarder ● Monitor and maintain the welfare, safety, discipline and well-being of all boarding students. ● Be aware of all aspects of the Child Protection and Safeguarding policy, attend relevant training sessions and, make appropriate referrals to the School Counsellor if needed. ● Promote and enforce the zero tolerance to bullying approach in line with the school’s prevention of bullying policy. ● Attend relevant Fire Safety training, carry out regular fire drills and ensure all students and staff in the Boarding House are made aware of fire safety protocols on the first day. ● Provide a sympathetic presence in the Boarding House and be sensitive to those who are having difficulties adapting to boarding life or school. Boarding House Development ● Set annual budget and development plan for the Boarding House and monitor the execution of plans and expenses. ● Create and maintain a system for the organization of student roles and responsibilities. ● Appoint boarders to leadership roles and ensure those roles are carried out effectively. ● Ensure good communication and relationships between the boarding community, the school, the donors and other parties. ● Ensure that there is adequate supervision of the Boarding House and that all staff act in accordance with and respect the school culture. Parent Relations ● Establish and develop positive relations with parents and guardians of boarders. ● Ensure that parents and guardians understand the Boarding House’s policies and are informed of their child’s progress and well-being. ● Make sure family incidents and problems are brought to the attention of boarding staff, school or counsellors. ● Write letters, briefing and announcements to boarders’ parents as needed. Quality Assurance ● Maintain awareness and understanding of relevant current legislation and best practice to ensure the Boarding House facilities and operation meet reasonable standards of Thai National Boarding Standards and Regional/International Accrediting Organizations. ● Have a secure knowledge of the inspection requirements for a boarding house . ● Be responsible for the annual review and update of the Boarding Handbook and other School Handbooks’ sections concerning boarding. ● Provide guidance to the Founders and the Management staff on what is required when schools set up a boarding house and prepare for inspection. Boarding Staff Recruitment, Support and Supervision ● Take part in hiring Boarding Teachers and other Boarding Staff as required. ● Provide support for School Management, Teachers and other staff as required; ● Make decisions and recommendations regarding salaries, responsibilities, contract extensions and terminations of Boarding Staff. ● Provide Boarding Staff with induction training on Boarding House policies, continuing development and supervision in their roles and responsibilities. ● Plan and communicate Boarding Staff rotas and activities and arrange suitable cover if needed. General ● Exemplify and promote Panyaden values and behaviours and be committed to the School vision. ● Represent the school to parents and external parties where required. ● Contribute to the development of the school through strategic planning and review.
